Lake Murray Symphony Orchestra (LMSO) is an all-volunteer community orchestra located in the Lake Murray/Irmo/ Lexington/West Columbia suburbs of Columbia, South Carolina.  Dedicated to performing a varied symphonic repertoire of classical, light classical, and pops music, the LMSO provides quality live symphonic music to listeners of all ages and musical tastes.

Since 2004, the LMSO has been home to accomplished amateur and semi-professional musicians throughout greater Columbia.  Performing four concerts per year, the LMSO takes pride in being able to present all concerts free of charge thus making quality symphonic orchestral music available to everyone.

Artistic Director & Conductor

Dr. Charles Patterson

Dr. Charles E. Patterson, III is an award-winning conductor, music educator, and scholar whose work integrates artistic excellence, pedagogical innovation, and national research leadership. 

As a conductor, Dr. Patterson is recognized for his expressive clarity, collaborative rehearsal approach, and commitment to programming that balances masterworks with educational and community-centered initiatives.

 

Dr. Patterson holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education from the University of South Florida. His graduate work also included focused study in orchestral conducting and qualitative research methodologies.
