The Musicians of the LMSO
The musicians in the Lake Murray Symphony Orchestra each share some common characteristics. Each loves music and each loves honing their musical skills with their particular instrument(s) of choice. Audience members at the LMSO concerts also notice something else about our musicians. While capable of performing challenging symphonic works, this group of musicians also enjoys ... well ... schmaltzing, rocking, jazz-ing and - they've even crooned and shouted during their concerts! In other words, the musicians involved with the Lake Murray Symphony Orchestra have fun rehearsing and performing.
Another fact about our musicians may be lesser known to audience members. With the exception of the occassional "hire" that must be pursued in an effort to complete a particular instrumental section, every musician in the orchestra rehearses and performs free of charge to the orchestra and the community. Indeed, orchestra members themselves carry the burden of associated costs necessary to make it possible for them to participate in the orchestra. They purchase, for example, strings, reeds, mutes, cases and other instrumental necessities. They pay for their own transportation to and from rehearsals and concerts. They pay for their performance clothing. They receive no financial renumerations for their efforts. "Why?" you may ask. Music! "Just for the love of it!" truly describes the driving energy behind this dynamic ensemble.
As the musicians are volunteers, our roster of talent changes for each concert. Therefore, the musicians participating in each concert may change. Please rely on your concert program for that particular concert's personnel list.
